A Caring Approach to Your Individual Needs
The first step in sound audiology treatment is proper evaluation. In an open, patient-focused environment, we treat hearing problems of all kinds in patients of all ages.
Audiological Evaluation: Our audiology exams are completed in a specially treated sound room with reliable, well-maintained, up-to-date equipment. Using the latest testing methodology, our hearing exams determine hearing ability for pure tones and speech in all age groups.
Acoustic Immittance: This computerized, objective measurement tests the middle ear system and its structures. This testing in combination with audiological testing, will help determine if there is “fluid” in the ear, a perforated ear drum and much more.
Otoacoustic Emissions: Useful for testing children too young to provide feedback on their hearing. A small probe, similar to an earplug, is placed into the ear canal and a series of tones is presented. The probe records the response from the hair cells of the inner ear to give an indication of hair-cell function. This test is also is useful in when evaluating tinnitus patients as well.
Newborn Hearing Screenings: All babies born in New Jersey are required to have a hearing test when they are born. Based on the results, some may require follow-up every six months until the age of 3. Using otoacoustic emissions testing, we test these young children (painlessly) and get accurate results.
Auditory Processing Evaluations: Auditory Processing is not how well we hear, but rather what we do with what we hear. People with auditory processing disorders often experience:
- Difficulty hearing in noise (with normal hearing acuity)
- Difficulty following instructions or paying attention
- Difficulty following lectures
|
- Poor note-taking skills or difficulty in school
- Slow response to oral instructions
- A history of chronic ear infections
|
Our auditory processing evaluation is designed to rule out underlying hearing loss. The battery that follows involves listening to recorded speech and tones in different situations and repeating or identifying certain attributes. The results determine the particular auditory processing disorder, if any. From there, we provide appropriate recommendations for home, school, or work.
Tinnitus Evaluations and Treatments: Tinnitus is a symptom usually described as a "noise" in the ears or head – often a ringing or buzzing. As the only tinnitus specialist in the area, we provide a complete audiological evaluation during which we work to match the pitch and volume of the tinnitus. Balance Evaluations: To diagnose and help make treatment recommendations for vertigo, we have state of the art Video-electronystagmography (VNG) equipment. Please visit our vertigo and dizziness page. |
